It’s Q4: Do you Know where your Goals Are?
Welcome to October, my favorite month of the year! It’s also the start of Q4, which means it’s a really good time to assess where you are relative to the things you were hoping to accomplish this year. Companies do it. Shouldn’t we?
What’s great about doing this in October is that you still have time to make some progress before the year is out, even if you haven’t started yet. Why wait until you’re so swept up in the holiday season that you can’t think about anything else? Why let this year’s goals become next year’s resolutions?
I mean, it’s no secret that diet and lifestyle changes are among the most common New Year’s resolutions. Year after year after year. All too often, they’re made out of desperation, frustration, or at the tail end of a holiday sugar crash so huge it rivals the biggest of roller coasters. And, all too often, they don't stick – maybe for the same reasons.
What would it feel like to do things differently this time? Instead, go into the holidays with a new understanding of why what you eat affects how you feel and how you function; new skills to help you do something about it; and a few new habits that will have you ending the year feeling better than when you started. And it will only keep getting better from there.
Because cleaning up your diet, changing the way you eat…. whether it’s for more energy, better sleep, weight management, to clear your brain fog, lower your cholesterol, reduce your disease risk, or just feel like yourself again… isn’t about a start date and an end date. It’s about a steady progression that becomes a way of life. Anything else is just temporary.
So, don’t believe the retailers. Just because the stores are already full of decorations and music (is it me, or does this start earlier every year?), it doesn’t mean that the holidays are already here. And it doesn’t mean you have to wait until they’re over to get started. It’s not an either/or. You can actually still enjoy all that the holidays have to offer even while you’re building a new foundation for yourself.
